98 Launch
10th November 2009
Our studios happen to have a very rich radio broadcasting history.
During the 80s one of Dublins best “super-pirates”, Q102, were based in our basement followed by one of the citys first official licenced radio stations, Classic Hits 98FM.
It was 20 years ago this very day that 98 first launched itself onto the Dublin airwaves. Mark Cagney was the first voice heard at midnight as he introduced the song Dubliners had voted their No.1 of all time.
The picture opposite is the very room where all this historic broadcasting happened, though obviously, the picture shows how it’s currently decked out as our Studio Three “on-air suite”.
How did it all sound and just what was that song? Click play below to hear how it went.
